Social entrepreneur, What does it mean? This was the question that I asked myself when I saw this event called Celebrating social entrepreneurs organized by Leyla F Karaha.

I came across this event last year at “The Dublin Startup Week”, I couldn’t resist joining to learn more about it.

A social entrepreneur is a person who pursues novel applications that have the potential to solve community-based problems. It was amazing to get to know different companies who were doing it.

Since that day, I decided that I wanted to be involved in social entrepreneurship, following my beliefs and values, as I love working with people who want to support communities and make this world a better place.

So I decided to contact Leyla and share her story so we can support her dream.

Dreamer : Leyla F Karaha.

Q: What is your dream?

A: I’m a dreamer, so I have so many dreams. One of my dreams that I’m working on right now is YourY Network; I’m creating a platform for global social entrepreneurs to connect and collaborate with each other and grow the ecosystem. We started by organising informal networking events for social entrepreneurs in Dublin.

Q: Why is this dream important to you?

A: I always want to do things that make a positive impact to the world. And social enterprise businesses does that. So having a chance to make an impact in this ecosystem means a lot to me.

Q: How will your dream impact the world or a person?

A: I hope people will be inspired by what I do especially by hearing the stories of our social entrepreneur’s panel speakers and to be empowered to start their own social enterprises.

Q: How are you making this dream come true?

A: I started this as a fun thing to do, something to get me outside my comfort zone and grow. I applied to organise a Startup Week Dublin event last year while I was in a hospital bed recovering after a surgery. I had so much fun organising that event and decided to organised social entrepreneurship events every two months until COVID 19 hit. Then I organised my first online event in May 2020.

Q: What advice can you give other people that are gathering the courage to follow their dreams?

A: Be fearless, bold and just go for it. Life is too short.

Q: How can other people support you in making a difference with your dream?

A: Even though YourY Network started as a fun thing to do, it has a potential to grow further and make more impact. For this to be achievable, I need to have a team of passionate individuals who wants to make a difference in the world. A plus for software and social media marketing skills.
